Soul London was a one-off free outdoor concert on Chestnuts Field behind the Town Hall in Walthamstow. I was working with Serious as project manager and we were producing the event for the council who had commissioned it as part of their annual cultural offering to local residents.

The idea was to create a concert that reflected the history of soul in London. Serious pulled together a crack big band led by Kevin Robinson who were joined by Lemar, Misha B, Angel, Carleen Anderson and Marc Almond.

My role was not only to plan the site, logistics, artistic production and all the necessary operational elements but to ensure the council and all the other stakeholders were happy with our vision.

An hour before the concert the heavens dropped an ocean on us. Luckily the skies cleared just before the show, Craig Charles DJed a blinding warm-up set and a healthy crowd, young and old, turned up for a brilliant night of music.
